Why I love the Ford Lightning

I am an Asian American male in my mid twenties with a mild Ford Lightning obsession, more specifically the 2nd generation model, which was produced between 1999 and 2004. To quote the urban dictionary, the Lightning is “predominantly owned by rednecks and white trash.” I want to change this.

If you read my previous blog post, you know that I liked and bought cars for pretty stupid reasons. Nothing changes when it comes to the Lightning and here are three stupid reasons.

Stupid reason number 1: It looked badass in the movie The Fast and the Furious. I was 13 when this movie came out. Everyone else wanted the orange Supra; I wanted the red Lightning which you only see for 1.5 seconds in the entire movie.

Stupid reason number 2: It is needlessly fast. A pickup truck just doesn’t need to be that fast, and that’s awesome. It’s got a 360 horsepower supercharged V8 engine mated to a four cylinder automatic transmission meant for a V10 engine. I’m just a fan of irony, like when an Asian American male in his mid twenties is into pickup trucks.

Stupid reason number 3: It looks super sweet in red. I love the color red. Some cars look really bad in red. The Lightning looks super sweet in red. Red.

So yeah, I love the Ford Lightning. It’s red, fast and I’m like Ford’s greatest dream – an Asian man driving a Ford pickup. As soon as I can afford the 14 miles per gallon, I’ll look to purchase one myself.
