The Dodge Charger is a full size sedan built by Chrysler that competes with the Chevrolet Impala, Toyota Avalon, Chrysler 300 and Hyundai Azera. The Charger has American roots that date back to 1966 when it was introduced to the American market as a muscle car. Time has changed. While it still has the appearance of an aggresive muscle car, it's no longer in the form of a two door fastback.

The current Dodge Charger sedan was re-launched for the 2006 model year after nearly a 20-year hiatus. The 2006 Charger is considered the first generation of the Dodge Charger (LX). The second generation Charger was refreshed for the 2011 model year and features a more streamlined appearance.

While the Charger comes standard with a V6 engine, the V8 HEMI engines make it a true Charger. Depending on the particular model year, the first-gen Charger was available with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and between 340-horsepower and 372-horsepower. The SRT models of the first-gen Charger had a 6.1-liter V8 with 425-horsepower. Like the V6 engines in the first-gen Charger, it is recommended shoppers opt for the newer and higher-rated HEMI V8 engines in the second-gen Charger.
