The Mazda 3 is a compact family car which competes against other compact cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Unlike those competitors, however, the Mazda 3 has both a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. The options in body style is why a used Mazda 3 is one of the most popular small cars in America.
The second-generation Mazda 3, built from 2009 to 2012 and the third-generation, built from 2013 to the present are the wise picks. While the Mazda 3 is smaller than a Mazda 6, is larger than the Mazda 2. The Mazda 3 is available with two different four-cylinder engines. In the second-gen Mazda 3, there is a 148 horsepower 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and the optional 167 horsepower 2.5-liter four cylinder engine. Both engines are available with an automatic or manual transmission. For the third-gen Mazda 3, the 2.0-liter four cylinder has been upgraded to 155 horsepower, while the 2.5-liter engine got a boost as well to 184 horsepower. The 155 horsepower engine comes available with both a manual and automatic transmission, but the sportier 2.5-liter engine, however, is not available with a manual transmission.
